Starting this autumn, farmers and processors can reduce their energy bills with AFIR funds. RoEnergy Trade Fair showcases the technologies
Farmers receive funding for solar energy, while RoEnergy 2026 brings forward the technologies that can reduce energy costs.
In Western Romania, agriculture goes hand in hand with food processing.
Investments in renewable energy continue to defy inflation and current economic challenges, remaining one of the sectors bringing good news to the Romanian economy. The next source of funding is the Energy Scheme, through the Agency for Financing Rural Investments (AFIR).
Recently, AFIR published the consolidated Guide for the 2026 Energy Scheme entitled “The State Aid Scheme for Supporting Investments in New Electricity Generation Capacities from Renewable Sources Intended for Self-Consumption in the Agricultural Sector and the Food Industry.”
Specifically, starting June 15, 2026, Romanian farmers and entrepreneurs in the food processing sector will be able to submit online projects for the purchase and installation of solar panels, with or without battery storage, under a new funding session through the Energy Scheme.
The increased budget allocated for this purpose amounts to 265 million euros.
What can this funding be invested in?
According to AFIR, the beneficiaries selected for funding will be able to purchase photovoltaic panels and, where applicable, storage capacities for their own consumption.
The financial allocation is EUR 265 million, of which:
For each project, the financing is 100% non-reimbursable, within the following limits:
Therefore, at a time when the economy has an acute need for financing, investments in renewable energy will support the ability of businesses in agriculture and the food industry to continue moving forward on the path of sustainable development.
In this context, AFIR funding aligns perfectly with the October 2026 edition of RoEnergy Timișoara 2026 International Trade Fair, an event now reaching its 17th edition. Producers, distributors, integrators and financiers from the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and environment will meet at Romania’s longest-running exhibition, to discover together the latest technologies in the field.
