At its meeting yesterday, 14 July 2026, the Regulatory Committee of ANRE , the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority, approved the granting of the establishment authorisation for the development of the Șimand Photovoltaic Power Plant in Arad County.
With an installed capacity of approximately 410 MW, the project uses an agrivoltaic model, allowing the land to be used both for generating electricity from solar energy and for agricultural activities.
The granting of the establishment authorisation represents an important milestone in the development of this new renewable electricity generation capacity.
When this investment is combined with the 1,044 MW Arad solar park in Pilu–Grăniceri, one of the largest solar projects currently under development in Europe, where construction is expected to begin, Arad County has all the prerequisites to become a major solar energy hub.
The future solar park in Pilu-Grăniceri, named Dama Solar, will cover an area of 1,064 hectares and is being developed by Rezolv Energy.
Western Romania is not only attracting major solar investments. It has also become a focal point for established renewable energy events, hosting the traditional renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental trade fair in Timișoara, which has reached its 17th edition.
The RoEnergy Timișoara Trade Fair will take place from 21 to 23 October 2026 at Pavilion Expovest, 7 Calea Lugojului, bringing together investors and technology suppliers.
RoEnergy is Romania’s longest-running specialised exhibition, held annually since 2010.
