In Romania, 2024 started with good news for prosumers: according to a press release from the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM), starting January 23, 2024, the Photovoltaic Green House Program has been unlocked.
Thus, according to the Ministry of Environment, 90,000 households in Romania will be able to become prosumers with the help of the state subsidy. This is a governmental support of 20,000 lei (approximately 5,000 euros) for installing photovoltaic panels, with a personal contribution of 2,000 lei (approximately 500 euros).
For 2024, the budget allocated to the "Photovoltaic Green House" program, for which 515 installers have been validated, is nearly two billion lei, of which over 1.7 billion lei are allocated to individuals and 17.5 million lei to religious institutions.
"If we add the approximately 100,000 potential beneficiaries from the 2024 edition of the program when we have a record budget of 2 billion lei, as well as other financing programs from the Government level, we can say that, indeed, 2024 will be the year of prosumers in Romania," according to Mircea Fechet, Minister of Environment, Waters, and Forests.
Market sources, however, say that, in addition to applicants subsidized by the state, a large number of homeowners as well as business owners choose to invest from their own funds. On the other hand, a significant percentage of prosumers, some of whom are subsidy recipients, opt for capacities larger than necessary for self-consumption.
