Extreme heat has led to a boom in prosumers
According to TRANSELECTRICA, 10,000 new prosumers appear in Romania each month. This phenomenon seems to be accelerated by the heatwave, which increases electricity consumption.
Another factor driving many Romanians to become prosumers is the fluctuating and rising electricity prices, coupled with the decreasing costs of photovoltaic technology.
Market sources say that in 2024, Romanians are investing between 3,000 and 5,000 euros in photovoltaic systems.
Unlike previous years, when Romanians installed capacities of up to 5 kW, in 2024 the demand for 7-10 kW systems and even higher has significantly increased.
Adding to these demands, the Green House Photovoltaic program provides a complete picture of the appetite of Romanian homeowners for energy independence.
In a ranking of counties with the most prosumers, Ilfov ranks first according to data from October 2023, with over 8,000 units, followed by Timiş (over 5,500 units) and Arad (over 4,000 units). The ranking continues with Dolj, Bucharest, and Argeş.
According to ANRE, by the end of this year, we will have over 200,000 prosumers, totaling over 1.5 GW.
